Thank God Its Almost Friday!! The weekend is upon us and if your weather is anything like here in Dallas, its always confusing. It was rainy and cold last week and now its been in the 70s all week long! When weather like this arrives, its best to have some easy, transitional items in your closet to layer with that will carry you throughout the day such as this blanket cape! Its perfect for this inconsistent weather!! You can easily layer it with thin cami's or a long sleeve tee underneath. It's so easy to unzip and take right off when it gets warm! I'm currently obsessing over flare jeans and want to buy more. These J Brand flare jeans I scored for $20 at a consignment shop here in Dallas. I've linked another similar, yet affordable pair for you below. I'll definitely wear my flares with tanks, tees and off shoulder tops come spring!
How cute is this french bakery right in Dallas? Their croissants are amazingly delicious! I wanted to take each and every one home with me to eat with a hot cup of coffee and cozy pjs.
Anyhoo, what are some of your favorite transitional pieces in your wardrobe?
Hello loves! Its Thursday and that means I am a happy camper as the weekend is upon us! When I styled this look, I knew I wanted it to be a little casual, but impactful. Dallas weather this winter has been all over the place, its cold one-minute and warm the next. So I took to layering up! I did a nod to the 90s movie “Clueless,” by wearing a crop top over a flowy blouse. The burgundy cropped turtleneck and handbag adds warmth and depth to the look. Throw in a great pair of distressed, ripped jeans and faux fur pom poms for the cutest details. This is a great outfit because you get a balancing act of using two bold prints: camouflage and leopard together. I'd like to share a few of my own personal tips for print mixing. I always admire the girls that can throw on three different prints and make it work. But, I'm a little conservative when it comes to print mixing. I don't want to look like I got dressed in the dark lol. I still want to look effortless and maintain my sense of style. Don’t let print mixing overwhelm you. I have five tips of how I incorporate print mixing in my wardrobe that works for me!
1. Be open to trying different patterns and prints- Leopard, floral, plaid, polka dots, camouflage, tweed, stripes etc. Write down the prints you currently have and create combinations. This allows you to think a little outside of the box and get the creative juices flowing!
2. There’s levels to this- Determine how bold you are willing to go with print mixing. Personally, I don’t want my prints “competing” with one another. In today’s look, you can see how I wore the camo jacket and the leopard shoes together. But, notice how these two prints are not close to one another. To me, this is an easier approach to mixing prints since they’re not directly next to each other.
3. Wear one bold print and a smaller print – Imagine a floral dress with huge flowers and a leopard coat with gigantic spots. It’s too much!! Try wearing a floral dress with smaller floral print and a leopard coat with bigger spots or vice versa. Tone down the proportions of the print for more impact and wearability.
4. Accessorize- don’t forget, you can incorporate accessories when print mixing too! Honestly, accessories are a great start for a rookie print mixer. Take note of my tortoise shell sunglasses! Its a small touch but another print added to the mix. An easy print to start with is leopard! A leopard bracelet or leopard handbag or shoes can just about work with any other print. Leopard is all the rage right now. Embrace it!
5. Back to step 1, those combinations you wrote down? Yes, its time to try it all on. Allow yourself to visually see how the prints look on your frame and body. Discover what works for you and makes you the most comfortable when mixing prints. You’d be surprised at what you come up with!
It's Thursday! This week has flown by and I am happy about it. I think today's look is definitely up there as one of my favorites. I absolutely love graphic tees. A graphic tee allows you to be creative and expressive. You can never have too many if you ask me! You can pretty much wear this look anywhere, even for Valentine's Day if you like. I bought this hot pink leather moto jacket last year and sadly its no longer available in this particular color. I thought it would be fun to add a pop of color to this look and I really feel its the icing on the cake. You guys know I will throw on my favorite boyfriend jeans and fringe boots with just about anything. I think this outfit came together perfectly. Don't you?
If you didn't know, I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. It is a place that is near and dear to my heart. I know the Detroit you may hear about on the news sounds unsettling. And that it is. But, growing up it was my home. And there is no place like it. When I tell people I am from Detroit, they are usually surprised. I suppose we all have our thoughts on our expectations of people and where they're from. I guess because of what they have heard, they expect someone from Detroit would act or behave a certain way. I'm not really offended. But, you most definitely can't talk down on my city to me!! lol. I always will represent proudly where I am from!!
This tee speaks volumes about my city, my home. Most times, it does feel like Detroit vs Everybody. The challenges my city faces are definitely difficult. But, the memories I have growing up in "Tha D" always makes me smile. I remember when I was little, playing in the park at Belle Isle across from my grandmother apartment, Easter egg hunts at my church, riding my bike in my neighborhood and getting ice cream at our neighborhood ice cream shop. My high school, Martin Luther King Jr. Sr. is one of the top three high schools in the city. The memories I have of my classmates and teachers are priceless. Cruising downtown with my friends, the summer music festivals at Hart Plaza and eating delicious food in Greektown on a warm summer night. My mom was a community activist and worked hard at rebuilding the neighborhood and serving the community. Everyone knew Mrs. Taylor! She would take me with her to the community meetings and activities. She showed me what its truly is like to give back to your community and to be selfless as well. Looking back, I can appreciate those moments. Her love for the city was truly grand and she loved every second of the work she had done. My mother passed away five years ago. My dad is still there in the home I was raised in. I haven't visited home since I've had my daughter. I'm tearing up a bit writing this post because the memories of home are so vivid and strong. Even though I live in Dallas now, there is truly no place like home. Detroit, I am rooting for you! And I love you.
